Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a go-to therapy for many of the world’s leading athletes—but you don’t have to be a pro to experience the benefits of acupuncture. Whether you’re a die-hard triathlete, devoted yogi or weekend warrior, acupuncture can enhance your performance, prevent injuries, decrease recovery time and improve your overall health. Acupuncture will improve strength, speed, agility, flexibility, overall performance and health.

By using a combination of acupuncture points and motor points within a muscle, the muscle spindle fibers are reset, blood flow is increased in the affected muscle which promotes optimal function while training and competing. Applying acupuncture to motor points is one of the most effective ways to restore muscle balance by affecting proprioception and the muscle’s communication with the central nervous system.

How does Acupuncture help athletes?

  • Acupuncture assists in both the performance and recovery phases of training.
  • Acupuncture increases microcirculation thus promoting blood flow in the affected muscles.  Blood flow brings nutrients, oxygen, immune and anti-inflammatory substances to the region and throughout the entire body allowing healing and recovery to rapidly increase.
  • Acupuncture stimulates the release of the body’s natural painkillers and some are up to 200 times more powerful than morphine.
  • Acupuncture relaxes muscles that have shortened over time.
  • Acupuncture helps rehabilitate post-operative injuries, sports injuries and improves athletic performance by increasing range of motion, muscle strength and tissue healing potential.
  • Acupuncture increases white blood cell production and lowers cortisol levels, which allows the immune system to remain healthy during training and competition.

What injuries can acupuncture effectively treat?

  • Strains/Sprains
  • Tendonitis
  • Over-use injuries to muscles and joints in the low back, knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and ankle
  • Sore muscles due to overtraining
